Getting into the Running Fever with Run United 2
Back in my teenager years, I used to join our intramurals and compete in the track and field category. Preparing for it required running every morning in our Kalookan neighborhood. The last one I joined was a 3 kilometer STI Fun Run in the 90s where I almost won (was pointed to a wrong direction when nearing the finish turn).
3 years ago when I started doing blog campaigns, running was becoming popular again and abuzz in various social media channels. Unfortunately, my left knee suffered an injury from a slip that prevented me from participating. Have done check-ups, MRI, and made a commitment lately to do the daily therapy sessions just to get it back in action soon.
Watching the MILO-APEX Running Clinic sessions in Bonifacio Global City and Quezon City Memorial Circle has inspired me to get into the running groove soon.
That is why am happy when I got the call from Unilab Active Health to cover the 21k category race at Run United 2 this Sunday happening at Bonifacio Global City. More than 5000 runners registered in this category that shows how much the running community has matured.
Run United 2 on June 17, organized by Unilab Active Health and RunRio Inc., is off to break the half-marathon category record set during Run United 1 earlier in March. As registration closed over the weekend for the 21K category, the 5,000-mark has been breached. Over 14,000 are expected to have signed-up in all categories for the much-awaited run race.
The 21k will start at Bonifacio Global City (BGC) and finish at SM Mall of Asia. Free shuttle services for all 21k runners from SM Mall of Asia to BGC starting at 2:30 am. This service will be available at 15 minute intervals until the last trip scheduled at 3:30 am in time for the 4:30 am gun start.
Run United races are for the benefit of Gawad Kalusugan (the health program of Gawad Kalinga) and the Children’s Hour.
Run United 3 will be held on September 16 and will be followed on October 28 by the much-anticipated Run United Philippine Marathon, Run United’s first ever full marathon or 42.195K race.
Unilab Active Health’s Tri United 2 is set on June 30 to July 1 while Tri United 3 is scheduled on November 10 and 11. Year-round running and triathlon clinics are also conducted in various venues.
Race kits were claimed at the first ever Run United Expo—a new enhancement to the Run United experience, patterned after known international races. The expo showed runners to the latest trends in the running industry and avail of huge discounts from the exhibitors. A special line of Run United memorabilia apparel will also be available for Run United enthusiasts.
